Opening Letter
Welcome Parents and Guardians!
My name is Coach Walker and your child is enrolled in my course this semester. I am looking forward to an exciting year. It is my goal is for students to grow not only in their technical mathematical skills for testing but to also grow in their curiosity of the world around them and how mathematics plays a part in that.
I am a graduate of Union University and currently enrolled in a master’s program there. I am a native of West Tennessee, just up the road in Union City. My wife Hayley and I have a puppy, Bruno. We’ve just settled into our new home in Jackson, TN. This is my first year as an educator and I’m beyond grateful to grow and to learn from your child just as much as I intend to teach them.
You can help. I will be expecting all practice assigned in class to be completed. Of course, all children do not work at the same pace. Some children will get their work done in class and some will not. Whether or not your child gets his or her practice done in class has no effect on their grade. If your child does not complete an assignment in class, he or she will be required to complete it at home. The way you can help is to ask your child every school day if schoolwork needs to be done, and if so, make sure your child completes the assignment.
Finally, I want you to know that one of my most important goals this year is to keep the lines of communication open with you. I am available almost every day to talk with you before school. Please don’t hesitate to contact me at [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns during the year, I will be sure to get back with you as quickly as I can. Be on the lookout because I will be contacting you during the first week.
Thank you,
Justice Walker
